Since the inception of the Ladies’ Shooting League in 2015, we have had tremendous success introducing and mentoring women of all skills, including pistol and long gun marksmanship and other shooting sports. Ladies of varying skill levels practice pistol fundamentals (sight acquisition, trigger control, grip/stance, and breath control) while under the supervision of an NRA-certified instructor.
We meet twice a month –the first Wednesday at 6 pm and third Sunday at 11 am- at the pistol bay range. Our range time lasts approximately 2 hours. Generally, attendance on either of those days is 6 to 20. Each event has an initial briefing and introductions; we then move on to a pistol warm-up time and finish with a fun training target.
We welcome all ladies, from those who may have just received their first handgun or taken their first course, to those who are more practiced. Many of the skilled shooters eagerly mentor and shepherd those who are interested in improving skills. Members also challenge themselves for improvement on speed and accuracy by participating in other shooting disciplines sponsored at Paul Bunyan such as: IDPA, ASI, USPSA matches, steel challenge, sporting clays, and trap.
We are on the Paul Bunyan calendar – and as a side note, we meet 12 months out of the year because our pistol range is covered and has heat! Snow and cold don’t slow us down!
