NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

The Paul Bunyan Rifle & Sportsman's Club will host a NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course June 28 & 29.  The eight-hour course will be taught by NRA Certified Instructors and will cover the basics of safe and proper gun handling and pistol shooting.  Participants will learn about firearm safety, parts and operation, shooting fundamentals, care and cleaning, storage options, selection, and more. This course consists of two mandatory sessions: 9 AM - 4 PM both days.  To obtain a registration packet, send an email with your name, address and phone number to training@pbrsc.org (preferred), or phone Dennis at 253-841-9309. Advance registration and deposit of course fee ($35) is required.  Additional information is available at: http://www.pbrsc.org/Training/training.htm.  Membership in the Paul Bunyan R&S Club and/or the NRA is not required in order to attend this course.

COURSE PREREQUISITES

All participants must be eligible to possess firearms in
compliance with applicable Federal and State Law.

Pregnant Women and Nursing Mothers

Pregnant women and nursing mothers are encouraged to discuss their participation in this course with their physicians prior to attending. They should discuss the
effects of exposure to loud sounds and airborne lead particulate.

COURSE SYLLABUS

Course Length: Total Class and range time is approximately eight hours (may be as long as ten hours, depending upon range time).

Course Goals: To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely

Student Text: The Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook

Course Lessons:
Lesson 1 - Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling (two hours)

Lesson 2 - Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting (two hours)

Lesson 3 - Firing the First Shots (two hours)

Lesson 4 - Scoring Targets, and Selecting and Maintaining a Pistol (one hour)

Lesson 5 - Continued Opportunities for Skill Development  (one hour)


What to Bring: A safe attitude; eye and ear protection if you have them.  Bring your lunch, snacks and drinks.  Students may bring their own pistol, either revolver or semi-auto and 50 rounds of factory new ammunition (light target loads, NO reloads, magnums or +P).  Dress comfortably and be prepared for both indoors and outdoors (you will be outdoors on the covered range for approx 4 hours).

What we will provide: A 22 caliber revolver, 22 caliber semi-automatic pistol and 22 caliber ammo; eye and ear protection; targets; enthusiasm; and a safe learning environment.  A certificate of Completion ("NRA Basic Pistol") will be provided to each student who successfully completes the course.
